GitHub Copilot for JetBrains Adds Cross-Session Memory and Ollama as a BYOK Provider

GitHub announced an August 11, 2026 update to GitHub Copilot for JetBrains: Copilot memory can retain and recall information across agent chat sessions, and Ollama is now usable as a BYOK provider. Server-based admin controls were expanded as well.

Alongside it, Ollama can now be used as a BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) provider in GitHub Copilot for JetBrains 1.

Administrative controls widened too. GitHub says administrators have more server-based controls for managing GitHub Copilot across their organizations, and that these enterprise managed settings cover plugin availability, MCP server access, permission bypass behavior, and OpenTelemetry settings 1. Separately, GitHub Copilot for JetBrains can now automatically install Copilot CLI from integrated terminals on macOS, Linux, and Windows 1.
