MAI-Code-1.1-Flash Arrives in GitHub Copilot; MAI-Code-1-Flash Retires September 10

GitHub announced on August 11, 2026 that MAI-Code-1.1-Flash is available in Copilot, at a 73% lower list price than MAI-Code-1-Flash and a 0.25x premium request multiplier for annual subscribers. Business and Enterprise admins must enable it — the policy is off by default. The previous model retires September 10.

GitHub announced in an August 11, 2026 changelog that the coding model MAI-Code-1.1-Flash is available in GitHub Copilot 1. Building on MAI-Code-1-Flash, it adds native vision support for image understanding and delivers improvements across coding quality, instruction following, tool use, and performance, according to GitHub 1. It carries a 73% lower list price than MAI-Code-1-Flash, and for annual GitHub Copilot subscribers the model is charged at a 0.25× premium request multiplier 1. Copilot Free and Student users get it through auto model selection, while Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise SKUs can also select it manually — though Enterprise and Business administrators must enable the policy in Copilot settings, and it is off by default 1.

The same day, GitHub announced that the previous MAI-Code-1-Flash will be deprecated on September 10, 2026 2. The company asks users to update their workflows and integrations to the new model before that date 2. After the deprecation date the older model disappears automatically, with no manual removal required 2.
