Cursor Lets Cloud Agents Start Without a GitHub Connection

Cursor published a cloud agent update on August 27, 2026. Agents can now start without a connected external SCM via "Start from scratch" and be saved to an Origin repo afterward, with a live browser preview of the agent's environment.

Cursor published an update on August 27, 2026 stating that Cloud Agents no longer require a connected GitHub or other third-party SCM provider to get started¹.

Selecting “Start from scratch” in the repo picker and prompting the agent causes Cursor to create an Origin repo in the background¹
Once the agent’s build is to the user’s liking, the “Create repo” button saves the work to an Origin repo, with a custom or suggested name and visibility set to private or internal¹
Cursor also now port-forwards the cloud agent’s live environment straight to the browser for previewing, and connecting a Vercel account allows publishing the result to a live URL — a Vercel account is required for that publish feature¹

Origin itself is the code hosting service that began rolling out on August 17 as an early beta on paid plans; this update adds a path to start work before any repo exists². For prototyping handed to an agent, that means starting straight from a prompt with no GitHub-side setup.
