Shopify Q2 2026: AI-Referred Traffic and Orders Tripled Year Over Year

Shopify reported Q2 2026 results on August 5: revenue up 34% and an 18% free cash flow margin. On the earnings call, the company said AI-referred traffic and orders both tripled year over year, calling AI a complement to search rather than a substitute.

Shopify reported results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 on August 5, with revenue up 34% year over year (33% in constant currency) and an 18% free cash flow margin 1. President Harley Finkelstein said it was “a monster quarter: more than 30% growth in GMV AND revenue AND gross profit AND free cash flow” 1.

According to TechCrunch, the company said on that day’s earnings call that AI-referred traffic and orders both tripled year over year 2. Half of AI-referred sessions land directly on a product page, 2.5 times the rate seen with traditional search, and 75% of AI-attributed purchases happened outside the top 100 categories 2. Finkelstein said AI “has become a complement to search, rather than a substitute for it” 2. Traditional search remains one of the largest sources of buyer traffic, holding roughly a third of all storefront sessions 2.

These are figures the company presented in its own earnings commentary and have not been independently verified. Shopify expects Q3 revenue to grow at a low-thirties percentage rate year over year 1.
