Google Expert Intelligence Brings Purchased Ebooks Into Gemini Notebook

Add eligible ebooks bought on Google Play Books to a notebook and get answers grounded in them. Launching with more than 100,000 titles; using a book requires owning it.

Google introduced Expert Intelligence on August 27, 2026, describing it as a cross-Google initiative 1. Eligible ebooks purchased from Google Play Books can be added directly to a Gemini Notebook, letting users ask questions and receive responses grounded in that book, or generate infographics, audio overviews and quizzes from it 1.

It launches with more than 100,000 books from publishers including Bloomsbury, Macmillan Publishers, O’Reilly Media and Penguin Random House. Google also worked with more than 15 bestselling authors on curated Featured Notebooks 1.

Among the controls developed with authors and publishers, interacting with a book in Gemini Notebook requires owning it through Google Play Books. If a notebook is shared, collaborators are prompted to purchase their own copy; otherwise the book is unavailable within their notebook 1. Google says it plans to extend Expert Intelligence to the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search 1.
